Chapter 3: Family Ties

Many miles lie between our nuclear family and the rest of our relatives, who are spread all over the U.S. and across the pond.  Though we do a reasonable job of staying in touch,  thanks to email and Facebook and such, nothing compares to a visit for renewing family ties—especially when it takes place at our seashore house, with its long history of good times.

This summer we enjoyed two such special occasions, each involving several generations of each side (Mack and Djorup) of Alison’s family. Many games were played, waves jumped, memories shared, shells collected, songs sung and played, and delicious meals consumed—including a full-on Thanksgiving dinner for 18, shared  among family and friends so thankful to be together that the date didn’t matter. The photos show Alison and her cousins, Mary Beth and Sally, in the late 1960’s and at the 2013 get-together.
